Obituary: Felice Plain-Mueller

As the News Review went to press, we learned of the death Feb. 14, 2014, of Felice Plain Mueller, a local treasure, who died in her Ridgecrest home at age 90 after having lived in our valley for nearly seven decades.

With her first husband, Dr. Gilbert Plain, Felice was among the first China Lakers to move from the base to the neighboring town of Ridgecrest. They moved into the house they built at Plain Acres in 1951 — and she was still living there at the time of her death. Close friends and neighbors were Dr. Arlo and Jay Mueller.

The Plains raised an accomplished family here and supported many community causes, notably Cerro Coso Community College, the Community Light Opera and Theatre Association and the Maturango Museum.

After Gil Plain’s death and the death of Jay Mueller, another community favorite, widow Felice and widower Arlo fell in love and had years of wedded bliss before Arlo, too, died.

Friends commented that Felice’s death on Valentine’s Day was fitting in that she had experienced two “loves of her life.”

Her services have been postponed until April to give family members an opportunity to travel here from Germany.

A more complete obituary will appear closer to the time of the services.
