Obituary: John T. ‘Jack’ Sherrick
John Thomas “Jack” Sherrick passed away on Feb. 9, 2014, at the age of 71 with family and friends by his side.
A funeral service at the All Faith Chapel, China Lake, will take place on Feb. 13 at 11 a.m.
He was born to David and Pauline Sherrick of Harrisburg, Pa., on March 10, 1942.
John served in the U.S. Navy from February 1960 to August 1978, including a tour to Vietnam. He retired as a master chief petty officer with 18-1/2 years of service. During this time he found the love of his life and married Dianna Byrd. They spent more than 50 years together.
He also retired from Naval Air Weapons Station after 20 years, during which he supported the Foreign Military Sales program, Sidewinder and other weapon programs. After retirement the Sherricks enjoyed traveling all over the country to visit family and military friends.
He is survived by his wife, Dianna Sherrick; four children, Janna and Anthony Barnhardt, Doug Sherrick, Angie Lewis and Vince and Tracy Sherrick; grandchildren Mandy and Eric Smoot, Kyle Lewis, Brad Barnhardt, Casey Lewis, Christy and Scott Montes, Travis Lewis, Ashley Sherrick and Christopher Sherrick; six great-grandchildren and four siblings.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charitable foundation in honor of John Sherrick.
