Expanding Your Horizons conference set for March 8
The Ridgecrest Women of Math and Science Inc. in collaboration with the Ridgecrest Elks Lodge announced that the 13th Annual Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) conference will be held March 8, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at McLean Laboratory, Naval Air Weapons Station, China Lake.
The conference introduces female students in sixth through eighth grades to the numerous science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers available to them. Workshop leaders will give information on helpful classes and activities to pursue in preparation for these careers, as well as providing hands-on experiences.
By using positive mentors and role models to demonstrate that anything is possible for these young women, the presentations will encourage female students to take higher math in order to keep all of their options open.
This year each attendee will choose three workshops from among the 19 offered. The ever-popular “Will Poo Go Splat?” and “Dog (and Cat) Day Afternoon” return, along with “Archeology Rocks!”
Registration begins Feb. 12 and closes Feb. 21. Conference organizers encourage those interested to submit applications early; the workshops fill quickly.
Registration forms and a complete listing of workshops may be found at school offices or at www.ridgecresteyh.org.Story First Published: 2014-01-22
