Knights to offer free Christmas dinner
On Christmas Day, from noon to 4 p.m., the Knights of Columbus will sponsor their 20th annual free Community Christmas Dinner for those who would be alone, who are in need or who would just like to join a jolly group enjoying the holiday.
The dinner will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 725 W. Ridgecrest Blvd. For those who are homebound, meal delivery may be arranged by calling 760-375-8901 between noon and 3 p.m. on Christmas Day.
Last year, 574 meals were prepared, with about 350 of those being delivered to the homebound or taken out.
Thirty-one turkeys were deep-pit barbecued. Many pounds of ham and all the trimmings were served. Local musicians played live Christmas carols while attendees dined. The meal and festive atmosphere combined to make those in attendance feel welcome and special.
Some 60 volunteers prepared, served and cleaned up. Generous donations came from not only members of the local Catholic parishes but also many others to make this event possible.
