The meeting of the Sierra Sands Unified School District Board of Education on Dec. 19 was short and sweet, including election of new officers for 2014.

The new president of the board is Kurt Rockwell, and the new vice president is Tom Pearl.

Receiving zero comments from the public was a hearing on permitting the city of Ridgecrest to be granted a temporary construction easement and a right-of-way dedication for the portion of land on the site of the planned James Monroe campus, commencing at the centerline intersection of South Warner Street and West Church Avenue.

The board approved the Single Plans for Student Achievement (SPSA), Common Core State Standards Implementation Funding Plan, a services agreement between the University of California at Davis Center for Education and Evaluation Services and SSUSD and an early retirement notification incentive for 2013-14.

The board also approved an annual accounting of developer fees for the 2012-13 fiscal year and the first interim budget report for fiscal year 2013-14.

The board elected both a board representative and an alternate to the committee that elects members to the County Committee on School District Organization. That representative is Amy Castillo-Covert. The alternate is Mike Scott.
