Finals have officially begun, and students here at Burroughs have been swept up in a frenzy of studying, exams and planning for the trips they will take during winter break as we wrap up 2013.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in Burroughs’ book fair! In addition to raising funds for the library, Burroughs also donated books to the women’s shelter through the All for Books program.

Burroughs clubs at this moment are finishing their “season of giving.” Ben’s Brigade, AVID Club’s effort to raise money for cystic fibrosis awareness, raised more than a thousand dollars to donate for cystic fibrosis awareness. The club’s efforts rallied around Ben, a teacher’s six-year-old son, who had recently been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

Friends of Rachel also finished their coat drive and will donate coats to the women’s shelter today. Thanks to all who helped make Burroughs’ season of giving fantastic!

Also last week, we finished our door-decorating contest, in which teachers sign up their 5th-period classes to decorate their hall door and compete against other classrooms. We would like to congratulate Mr. Faber’s classroom for placing first in this annual competition.

Winter sports are now in full swing! For those who want to go cheer on our teams, our next home games will be boys’ soccer, which will play Silverado tomorrow at 3 p.m. Wrestling will have a tournament on Dec. 20 at Cerritos College, and we wish all of our teams good luck!

On that note, we at Burroughs would like to wish everyone a fantastic week, and we would like to wish our students good luck for their finals!
