Truck theft stopped in progress

A truck was reported stolen from the parking lot at Guns4US on Sunday morning just after 11 a.m. The truck was described as being a Ford Ranger maroon flatbed pickup with chrome wheels. The keys were left in the vehicle. Ridgecrest Police Officer Tom Dilley was dispatched to the location, 417 E. Ridgecrest Blvd. The truck had been stolen just minutes before.

A few minutes later, police received a call from the truck’s owner, who stated that his brother, Elias Olmedo, 26, had just stolen a truck and tried to run him down at East French Avenue and East La Mirage Lane. The owner’s wife was reportedly in the truck with Olmedo.

A short time later, Sgt. Ryan Marrone and Officer Travis Gillette located the allegedly stolen truck at South China Lake Boulevard and Highway 395. The officers initiated a traffic stop, and the driver, Olmedo, stopped without incident. Olmedo was arrested on charges of vehicle theft and possession of narcotics paraphernalia, and booked into the Kern County Jail in Mojave. The truck was returned to its owner after the arrest.

The Ridgecrest Police Department asks that you secure your valuables and that you do not leave your keys anywhere inside your vehicle. Also, please do not leave valuables in view, as it makes you and your vehicle a target for thieves.
