DCOA to present Christmas concert

The Desert Community Orchestra Association will present “A Christmas in Kern,” a concert for the whole family, on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Burroughs High School Parker Performing Arts Center. The community is invited to come enjoy popular holiday classics and traditional Christmas carols as well as new numbers celebrating the season.

Special guest artist Barry Fasman will perform on the piano as the orchestra plays his composition entitled “Peace, Shalom, Shalaam Aleikam.”

“Foz,” as Barry is known in the music industry, produced and/or composed songs for several motion pictures and produced and wrote 32 songs on NBC-TV’s “Fame.” He is the owner and sound engineer of Sanctuary Sound, a fully automated multi-track digital recording facility in Los Angeles.

The orchestra, under Conductor Robert Martinez, will also be joined by the Desert Symphony Singers, Grace Lutheran Handbell Choir, Suzuki Strings, the Desert Children’s Star Choir, and Tim Little performing in “The Night Before Christmas.”

Tickets are at Red Rock Books and at the door for $10 general admission and a reduced price for senior, military, and students.
