CLOTA calls for singers, dancers for ’Rent’

Next summer the Community Light Opera and Theatre Association will present “Rent,” a rock musical with music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson based on Puccini’s opera “La Bohème.” To give the cast plenty of time to rehearse for this demanding production, Director Elena Vitale will hold auditions in December for the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical .

“Rent” tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York City’s Lower East Side in the 1990s under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

The musical has parts for several young men and women with good singing voices and/or dancing abilities. Ages of the characters range from 20-something to 30-something. There are also non-singing and non-dancing parts.

Interested actors are encouraged to come to auditions at CLOTA Center Stage, 1425 N. Inyo St. Dance auditions will be held Friday, Dec. 6, at 6:30 p.m., and vocal auditions will be on Saturday, Dec. 7, at noon.

Performance dates for the award-winning musical will be July 11, 12, 13, 17, 18 and 19. For more information, please call the CLOTA hotline, 760-446-2411.
