Big Band X-Press heats up for holiday hop
Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe help to make the season bright, but Big Band X-Press members claim they’ve got something even better for launching this year’s Yuletide festivities on Saturday, Dec. 7.
From 7:30 to 10:30 that evening the rafters of the Historic USO Building will echo holiday swing dance favorites like “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, ” “Let It Snow, Let It Snow” and “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” as these highly esteemed local musicians ring out their 2013 Christmas Ball.
Snacks and a no-host bar will be available, and dance instructor Ken Sanger will offer free instruction from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.
Tickets at $10 per person will be on sale at the door.
The nonprofit Big Band X-Press is now in its third decade of highlighting local community events with its matchlessly authentic dance music popularized by swing era orchestras under the batons of such classic leaders as Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and Tommy Dorsey.
Half the proceeds from the Dec. 7 shindig will benefit the Historical Society of the Upper Mojave Desert. For more information call Patti at 760-371-4301.Story First Published: 2013-11-27
