AVID contribute to the cureBurroughs High School AVID Club members (front, from left) Sawyer Chrisman, Dessire Vasquez, Jazmine Martinez and Carolina Martinez; and (back, from left) Sydney Persico, Mickayla Bolton, Jessica Thatcher, John Mills, John Rabang and AVID 9 Teacher Bob Hope prepare to distribute coin collection jars for the school’s cystic fibrosis fundraiser in recognition of the Dec. 7 Great Strides Walk/Run at the Cerro Coso Community College track. The Walk/Run begins at 9:30 a.m. The jars feature a picture of five-month-old Ben Hawkins, son of English teacher Stephanie Hawkins. The infant was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis earlier this year. The Burroughs community is rallying around Hawkins to show its support for Ben and all cystic fibrosis families as part of Ben’s BHS Brigade. Students sold baked goods and attended presentations about cystic fibrosis. Donations can also be made at www.RidgecrestGreatStrides.org.
