Paul Robert Martin
Former Ridgecrest resident Paul Martin peacefully went to our Lord at about 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, in Las Vegas, Nev. He was 59.
A Ridgecrest family and friend life celebration gathering is being planned.
Prior to emergency brain surgery, Paul’s, his son Daniel’s and nephew Thomas’s anxiety was “extremely high.” After the Catholic priest administered the Sacrament of the Healing and last rites, Paul and all present were “totally relaxed.” Paul’s two sons, David and wife Allison of Roseburg Ore., Daniel of North Las Vegas and other family members were with him prior to his death.
Paul Robert Martin was born Jan. 8, 1954, in Ridgecrest, to longtime Ridgecrest residents the late Mary and Charles Martin. Paul grew up in the China Lake and Ridgecrest area as the seventh of 10 children. His siblings are David (deceased), Steve, Roger, John, Duke, Marian, Ann Marie (deceased), Drew and Elizabeth.
Paul attended China Lake elementary schools, Murray Jr. High School and Burroughs High School, where he played football and baseball. He moved on to Bakersfield Junion College and Long Beach State University.
Prior to moving to Branson, Mo., he became Ridgecrest Knights of Columbus Council 3199 Grand Knight.
Occupational requirements found Paul back in our valley and then on to Barbers Point, Hawaii. where he was the contract program manager for the BOSS contract, Coast Guard Air Search and Rescue Mission. Upon his departure, he was presented the prestigious “Eagle Eye” award by base command.
At the time of his death Paul was working at Air Combat Command in Southern Nevada where he frequently traveled between Las Vegas and Tonopah performing essential contractual civil engineering duties.
