James E. Serpanos

James E. SerpanosJames E. “Jim” Serpanos passed on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at his home in Ridgecrest at the age of 81. He was born Jan. 15, 1932, in Greece. James, his wife and family were Ridgecrest residents since 1968.

Services will be held this Saturday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. at the H.K. Holland Memorial Chapel, 216 S. Norma St.

James retired in 1997 from China Lake, where he was head of the Science Application Branch, and also retired in 1963 as a full colonel after 40 years of service in the U.S. Air Force. His achievements also include bachelor in science, Indiana Institute of Technology 1958; master of science, Oregon State University 1963; civil engineering degree, Chicago; and experience as a computer engineer at McDonnell Douglas in California.

James is survived by his wife Odile Serpanos, married 46 years Oct. 28; son and daughter-in-law Evan and Laura Serpanos; son Philip Serpanos and grandchildren Nicole, James and Thomas Serpanos.
