Bob Hillyer passed away at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego with complications from cancer on Oct. 28. He was 78 years old.
Bob was married to Lu, his best friend and partner, for 53 years.
He left a very strong legacy both personally and professionally. Throughout his life he loved and served his country. He was absolutely committed to protecting the freedoms we all enjoy. Bob touched many lives and made a significant impact on those around him. His sense of humor continued to the end.
In accordance with Bob’s request there will be no large, public memorial service for him. His ashes will be spread over Mt. Lassen near his home at Lake Almanor on Nov. 10. This will be preceded by a simple outdoor service at the National Park so that family and friends can honor him and say goodbye. Given the remote location and likely cold temperatures, the family will completely understand if anyone cannot attend.
A second memorial event will be held in the San Diego area later in November. This event will be a bike ride and walk fundraiser benefiting the Sharp Foundation. Bob loved the Wednesday bike rides around Mission Bay with his friends and he developed a close relationship and respect for the extraordinary people that took care of him at Sharp Memorial Hospital. A reception will follow the ride/walk.
Specific details on both events to remember Bob will be provided next week. For more information contact Tom by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 303-726-5047.
