Front gate to open for first Community Day event
CHINA LAKE — Laser safety (science magic), static aircraft and unmanned systems, and heavy and tactical equipment will be just some of the sights the public will be able to see at China Lake on Community Day, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Other activities planned will be zones featuring environmental and energy awareness, kids’ activities, music and safety. There will also be the Sidewinder Classic Show & Shine, featuring cars, trucks and motorcycles.
General parking will be in the Michelson and Lauritsen lab areas, with handicapped parking behind the Headquarters Building.
Activity zones will be from Michelson Lab up through Blandy to the Navy Museum.
The Main Gate will open to the public at 9:30 a.m. Only badged personnel, event volunteers and registered car show participants will be allowed on the base before that time — all others will be turned away.
All vehicles and possessions are subject to search. The following items are prohibited:
• Ice chests and/or coolers
• Animals (only registered service animals will be allowed)
• Firearms, ammunition or weapons of any kind
• Fireworks and any other type of explosives
• Alcohol and/or illicit drugs and paraphernalia
• Glass items
• Mace, pepper spray or any chemical weapons
• Flammable liquids
• Oversized bags (larger than 1 cubic foot)
• Scooters, skateboards, roller skates, roller blades, etc.
Photography will be allowed.
Refreshments will be available for purchase from nonprofit organizations, and Navy souvenirs will be on sale from the Navy Exchange and the museum.
The Dixieland Jazz Band will play from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by Station Street from noon to 4 p.m.
