Local pastor to be ordained

Local pastor to be ordainedPastor Mark A. Brynestad will be ordained into the Ministry of Word and Sacrament at Grace Lutheran Church on Sunday, Oct. 6. The ceremony will take place at 4 p.m., and the public is invited.

Rev. Joe Campeau, senior pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Santa Clarita, will preside over the ceremony, while congregation president Richard Wendt will assist.

Grace Lutheran is located at 502 N. Norma St. in Ridgecrest and is a member of Lutheran Congrega-tions in Mission for Christ.

Brynestad, age 58, graduated from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., with a master of divinity degree, in August this year. He also graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1977 and the Naval Postgraduate School in 1992 with bachelor and master degrees in aeronautical engineering.

During his Navy career, he served as a shipboard helicopter pilot. Following that, he worked as an aeronautical and test engineer on unmanned aircraft systems for TRW and Northrop Grumman in Sierra Vista, Ariz.A native of Washington state, he has been the interim pastor for Grace Lutheran since September 2012.

Brynestad and his wife, Susan, have been married 35 years and make their home in Ridgecrest.
