Two local men plead to felony charges

Two local men who were arrested July 24, 2013 on felony charges relating to drugs, stolen property and possession of a firearm and ammunition have since pled nolo contendere (no contest) to one count each.
Gene Martin Gerard III, 20, was originally charged with possession of a controlled substance for sales, possession of controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition.
He pled to the charge of felon in possession of ammunition on Aug. 15, and the other charges were dismissed.
Gerard will face sentencing on Sept. 12 in the East Division (Ridgecrest) Superior Court.
He is now being held in Kern County Jail in lieu of $85,000 bail.
The second man, Richard Cody Waddell, 27, was charged with felony receiving known stolen property. He was released on bail.
Waddell pled nolo contendere to this charge on Aug. 27 and will return for sentencing on Sept. 26 in the Ridgecrest court.
The two men were arrested during a probation search on a residence in the 400 block of North Norma Street on July 24.
The search also turned up approximately two ounces of suspected cocaine, a loaded .22-caliber revolver with the serial number removed, marijuana, several hypodermic syringes, packaging and scales and a stolen HP laptop computer.Story First Published: 2013-09-11
