Ridgecrest Police discovered the body of a local man at the Rose Garden Inn, 329 E. Ridgecrest Blvd. on Aug. 24.
Officers received the call around 11:19 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, they reportedly found Burch in his room.
Since then, a suspect has been arrested in connection with this case — Timothy Shane McCleary, 41, of Ridgecrest. He is reportedly being held without bail.
The Kern County Coroner’s office came to the scene and began an investigation along with police officers.
They found that Burch had been the victim of an assault, during which he sustained an injury to his head which ultimately resulted in his death.
McCleary was arrested Sept. 5 and booked into the Ridgecrest Jail on a charge of first-degree murder. He was set for arraignment in Bakersfield’s Metro Division on Monday, but no information has been posted on the court’s website as of press time.
The latest reports indicate that murder charges will be filed by the district attorney in Bakersfield .
Although McCleary does not appear to have a prior criminal record in Ridgecrest, Burch’s record included past misdemeanors related to drunken and disorderly behavior.
No additional information about the victim was available at press time.Story First Published: 2013-09-11
