Skylar Ford, 13, is still hospitalized in Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, following serious injuries received when he was struck by a car on Aug. 11.

Skylar’s mother, Deena Ford, reports that he is awaiting his sixth surgery this Thursday, with possibly two more yet to come.

“The doctors are doing all they can,” she said.

“His spirits are good. He’s talking and he’s remembering the accident now. He’s still alive and still fighting.”

Apparently Skylar was riding a “Razor” type foot-powered scooter on Bowman Road about 11:25 p.m. on Aug. 11 when he was struck from behind by a vehicle going in the same direction.

A friend of the family described him as being tumbled over the top of the car, with his right side taking the majority of the damage.

Officials continue to investigate the incident.

Deena, a nurse, praised the performance of the emergency and medical teams involved.

She rode along in the helicopter when he was airlifted to Kern Medical and has been at his side as much as possible ever since.
