Details are still sketchy about a serious injury caused by an accident that happened Sunday night about 11:25 p.m. on East Bowman Road. Apparently Skylar Ford, 13, of Ridgecrest, was riding a scooter westbound on the right side of the road near Richmond Road when he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the same direction. According to the California Highway Patrol, the other vehicle was a 1993 Toyota sedan driven by Sharon Johnson, also of Ridgecrest.
According to Skylar’s mother, Deena Ford, Skylar suffered multiple major injuries, including a major head wound. He was transported to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield by Mercy Air.
She described the situation as a no-fault accident, where the other driver didn’t see him. “The emergency people were great. Everyone was wonderful. They allowed me to ride along with him when he was airlifted,” said Ford. “He will have surgery Wednesday, and then at least four more after that. We’re all hoping for the best.”
According to the CHP, there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs as a factor in this collision. The investigation is continuing.
