Library announces August schedule

Preschool Storytime is on hiatus until Thursday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m.

Barks and Books is set for Saturday Aug. 3, at 2 p.m. Children will practice their reading to Therapy Dog (grades K-3) in the Children’s Room.

A documentary film screening, “Prince Among Slaves,” is set for Saturday, Aug. 17, at 2 p.m. View the true story of a young African prince who falls from a life of power and privilege into slavery in a strange land, never losing his dignity or hope for freedom. This event is made possible through a Bridging Cultures/Muslim Journeys grant program.

The Friends of the Library board will meet onWednesday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. in meeting room. All interested persons are welcome to attend.

The Adult Book Discussion Group will meet on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 1 p.m. This month’s title is “The Devil in the White City” by Erik Larson. In September the One Book, One Bakersfield, One Kern reading and discussion project will be reading “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,” by Rebecca Skloot. The companion title for junior readers is “An American Plague: The True and Terrifying, Story of the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1793” by Jim Murphy.
