Library applauds supporters

To the Editor:

Library summer reading programs for children, teens and adults had a great turn-out this summer! Over 400 children participated in the “Reading Is So Delicious!” 10-book reading challenge. Young readers may still pick up their reading incentives through Saturday, Aug. 10.

Thanks go to our sponsors for helping to make the summer so successful! The Friends of the Kern County Library umbrella group provided funds for all the free paperback books earned by children and teens at all branches of the Kern County Library. Our Friends of the Ridgecrest Branch Library provided funds for all of the special programming enjoyed this summer, such as Working Wildlife, Jim Cogan, Wild Child Bubble Adventures, and E & M’s Reptile Family, plus the book bags with treats. The Pizza Factory was very generous with food coupons for participants who read ten books, plus McDonald’s, LEGOLand, Togo’s and the Bakersfield Condors.

We thank all of our supporters and all of the families who participated in the summer reading program and attended the special events!

Marsha Lloyd, Ridgecrest Branch librarian
