Society to meet Aug. 5 at museum


The next club meeting will be held Aug. 5, at the Maturango Museum, 100 E. Las Flores Ave., 7:30 p.m. The program will be an general astronomy-related talk. The next star party will be on Aug. 9. Signs will be out at 8 p.m. with viewing at 8:30.

Celestial Calendar

1. Venus remains in the evening sky this month. Look for it in the west as soon as it gets dark.

2. Jupiter remains in the morning sky. Look for it in the east after sunrise.

3. Mercury is in the morning sky this month. Look for it in the east before sunrise during the first two weeks of the month.

4. Saturn remains will placed for early evening viewing. Look for it in the southwest, as soon it gets dark.

5. Mars is joined by Jupiter this month but will always be much dimmer. Look for it low in the east before sunrise.

6. As usual, the big event for August is the Perseid meteor shower, which will peak during the morning hours on Aug. 12-13.
