Daniel Meraz Jr.
Daniel Meraz Jr. of Ridgecrest died on July 13, 2013, at the age of 84.
A Memorial Mass was held Monday, July 22, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Ridgecrest. Prior to mass a Rosary Service was held.
Daniel was born in San Bernardino on May 27, 1929. He attended college in San Bernardino and majored in mechanical engineering.
A resident of Ridgecrest for 62 years, Daniel worked as an engineer in the civil service at the China Lake naval base from June 1951 to December 1989.
Daniel was very active in the Knights of Columbus for 58 years, 40 of which were as a 4th Degree member. He was very involved and dedicated to his church.
He was married to Marjorie Meraz for 52 years, and she preceded him in death in July 2009.
Activities he participated in were playing and coaching on a Men’s Basketball League team in the late 1950s to mid 1960s. Later he coached basketball for his children. Daniel volunteered to coach local kids for the basketball and track Special Olympics, organized and participated in numerous fundraisers for Knights of Columbus and volunteered on PTA school fundraisers. Daniel’s passions were basketball, traveling, camping with family and friends and being a proud father and grandfather.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter Danette Meraz Queen and husband Don Queen; son Kristopher Daniel Meraz; grandson Dustin Queen; sisters Viola Meraz and Estela Bunce; brothers Frank Meraz Sr. and Charles Meraz Sr.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made to St. Ann Catholic School, 446 W Church Ave., Ridgecrest CA 93555.
