Local dancer performs with Ballet WestThomas Mattingly is pictured here with Katherine Lawrence Orlowsky, in a Ballet West performance of “The Nutcracker.” Sierra Academy of Dance congratulates former Ridgecrest dancer Thomas Mattingly, who has been selected as the newest principal dancer with Ballet West. Born in Ridgecrest, Mattingly began his ballet training at Sierra Academy of Dance under the instruction of Cate DeMin. During his junior and senior years, he studied on scholarship at the Virginia School of the Arts under the direction of the late Petrus Bosman. Upon graduation he was awarded the prestigious Dame Margot Fonteyn Award for artistic excellence. He joined Ballet West in 2008, was promoted to soloist in 2010 and promoted to principal this year.
