Frank V. Jones
MMCM Frank V. Jones, 71, of Ridgecrest, passed away June 16, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield as a result of a long battle with cancer.
His funeral was held yesterday, June 25, at the All Faith Chapel, China Lake. Burial followed at Desert Memorial Park in Ridgecrest.
Frank was born in Oakland, the son of the late Frank V. Jr. and Carlene Jones. Frank was the third of seven siblings, four brothers and two sisters.
Following graduation from Cloverdale High School in 1960, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at San Diego, which he dedicated 30 years of service, 11 of those years as Command Master Chief. He retired as Base Command Master Chief at the Naval Weapons Center in 1990.
During his years of service, he earned the Navy Commendation Medal, six Good Conduct Medals, two Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbons, National Defense Medals, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Battle “E” Ribbon and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
He also acquired the warfare specialty for Surface Warfare (SW).
During his military career, he was proud to have served on the following ships in the Pacific (listed in the order he served): USS Alcor (AK-259), USS Cabildo (LSD-16), USS Ranger (CVA-61), USS Vancouver (LSD-2), USS Rathburne (FF-1057), USS Hollister (DD-788), USS Duncan (FFG-10) and USS Anchorage (LSD -36).
After retirement he pursued his other passion, the appreciation of the outdoors — hunting, fishing, camping and hiking.
Frank loved serving his country; he was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion and VFW. He was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his longtime love and companion of 18 years Addie Rhodes;Addie’s daughter Rashell and son-in-law John Foster of Trona; Addie’s son Floyd Rhodes of Houston, Texas; Addie’s two grandchildren Troy Foster of Ridgecrest and Zane Foster of Trona; Frank’s daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were by Holland & Lyons Mortuary in Ridgecrest.
