Lions planning annual Fourth of July celebration
News Review Correspondent
To make this year’s community Fourth of July Fireworks event memorable, the Ridgecrest Lions Club is working to raise the estimated $25,000 required to put on the event — $22,000 in fireworks alone, plus $3,000 in fees and other expenses.
According to Organizer Steve Morgan, the event will take place at the Desert Empire Fairgrounds and will feature a live band, “Amarillo.”
Several fundraising events are in process. The Lions Club will hold a Bingo fundraiser on June 22, and tickets are on sale now through June 21, as well as at the door. See related article, page 2, for more details.
Tom Adams of Adams Jewelers has donated an “Esperanza Movado” ladies’ wristwatch valued at $2,400 to be raffled off to raise funds. Tickets at $5 each are on sale at Adams Jewelers, 138 S. China Lake Blvd., 760-384-2420. All proceeds will go toward the cost of the show.
For those who give large amounts, Factory Graphix will donate banners announcing donor names. Organizers point out that this is a great way for businesses to contribute and get some good advertising.
Also look for the familiar donation cans decorated as firecrackers, which will be placed in participating businesses around town. If everyone in town gives just one dollar each, this year’s fireworks show would be assured.
“This is important not only for Ridgecrest but for our nation as well,” said Morgan. “Donations can be big or small, does not matter at all — what matters is participating, so we can have our rather impressive fireworks display.”
You can donate directly by mailing your check to the Ridgecrest Lions Charity Foundation Fireworks Fund, P. O. Box 2301, Ridgecrest, CA 93556. For more information, call Morgan at 760-375-2715 or Lions President Catina Hood at 757-362-5898.Story First Published: 2013-06-12
