Burroughs grad to enter Air Force AcademyRep. Kevin McCarthy (right) congratulates Daniel Villarreal, 18, on his appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., this fall. A 2013 graduate of Sherman E. Burroughs High School, Daniel is the son of Mike and Sarah Villarreal. McCarthy honored him and seven other students at a May 27 reception in his Bakersfield office. The U.S. service academies are among the most respected and challenging educational programs in the nation. The academies are looking for well-rounded young men and women who have demonstrated character, academic excellence and physical aptitude and who have served in leadership positions within their school and community. Each graduate will receive a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission as an officer in the uniformed services.
