Thank you for supporting Friends

To the Editor:

Thank you to everyone who came to the Friends of the Library book sale on April 13 — it was a beautiful sunny day without wind and we had hundreds of avid book lovers enjoying their “book treasure hunt”!

We are most grateful to our customers, but of course none of this could happen without the amazing amount of material donations people in the community give to the Friends, which allow us to have our twice-yearly big sales and our ongoing sale within the library.

Your patronage allows us to make a big contribution to the Ridgecrest Branch Library in ways for which Kern County does not provide funding (or enough funding). For example, we pay for Wi-Fi for the library, fund the summer programs for children, teens, and adults — and purchase equipment, furniture and a large number of books, newspapers and magazines for the library collection.

Last, but certainly not least, a big thank you to all the volunteers who do the heavy lifting (literally!) to set up these sales and make them happen. Special thanks to the news and advertising outlets who help us get the word out — a very necessary component to a successful event!
