Fundraising under way for local People to People teen

Abigail Voigt spoke at the Ridgecrest Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Tuesday, April 9, during which time Al and Mary Alvarado offered to help with Abigail’s fundraising by donating a $1,000 jewelry shopping spree at Jewelry to Go, in Ridgecrest.

Voigt is raising $8,000 to represent Ridgecrest as a student ambassador with People to People. So far, she has raised $5,000 toward her trip. The Jewelry to Go fundraiser offers 150 tickets to be sold, at $20 each, for the raffle. A drawing date and location will be announced when all of the tickets are sold.

Tickets can be purchased at Jewelry to Go, Casey’s Steak and BBQ, Red Rock Books or High Sierra Auto.

Abigail is selling tickets. She is also collecting plastic, glass and aluminum drink containers for recycling and is willing to pick up donations of others. Contact Abigail at 760-608-1115 to purchase tickets for the raffle or donate recycling. Monetary donations are also welcome.

A smoked brisket fundraising dinner will be held in Abby’s honor on Friday, May 3, at Cornerstone Bible Church, 114 S. Gemstone St.

The cost of the dinner is a donation at the door. A silent auction will be held, and jewelry raffle tickets can be purchased at the dinner.

The menu for the dinner is smoked brisket, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, salad, rolls and coffee or tea. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for viewing silent-auction items, and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
