Woman dies in Trona fire

After emergency personnel put out a major fire at a home in Trona April 21, they found the body of Mary Ella Vassar, who apparently perished in the blaze.

San Bernardino County Fire and deputies from the the San Ber-nardino County Sheriff’s Trona substation responded to a structure fire in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 21, at Wingate Ave-nue and H Street. Emergency personnel found the living room and kitchen area of the residence fully engulfed in flames. Neighbors were attempting to put out the fire with garden hoses.

Police assessed the scene and determined that the resident was unaccounted for and believed to still be inside the residence.

After extinguishing the fire, and during a subsequent investigation with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Arson Bomb Detail, Vassar’s body was located inside the residence.

The investigation is ongoing; however, foul play is not suspected at this time.
