Ridge Writers speaker Mike Mallory to share Hollywood tales

Mike Mallory, Derringer-Award-winning author of the “Amelia Watson” mystery series, will share tales of his amazing career at the Wednesday, May 1, Ridge Writers meeting at Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The prolific Mallory is also the author of the horror novel “The Mural” and more than 120 short stories, mostly mystery, that have been prominently published. Several have been anthologized, and “The Beast of Guangming Peak” in “Sherlock Holmes: the Hidden Years“ was named a “Distinguished American Mystery Story of 2004” by Joyce Carol Oates and Otto Penzler. In addition, he has authored seven nonfiction books on popular culture, including “The Science Fiction Universe and Beyond” and “Marvel: The Expanding Universe Wall Chart” (a Silver Medal Book of the Year from ForeWord Reviews).

As an entertainment journalist, Mallory has published more than 475 articles that have appeared in Daily Variety, The Los Angeles Times, Newsday, Animation Maga-zine and numerous other publications, as well as online. He has been nominated three times for the prestigious Pushcart Prize.

When he’s not writing, he takes on acting roles in films, in stage productions and on TV (from classic soap operas to, most recently, “Vegas” and “Mad Men”)

Mallory transitioned from performing to writing in 1989, beginning with a position as show writer on the production staff of Disneyland. For the next three years he wrote more than a hundred shows, parades, ceremonies, videos and special events. Meanwhile, he drew on his deep affection for cartoons to become an internationally recognized authority on the history and industry of animation.

The public is invited to this and all meetings of the Ridge Writers. Admission is free.

Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church is located at 633 Las Flores Ave. For more information about the multitalented Michael Mallory, visit michaelmallory.com.
