CLOTA auditions for ‘Li’l Abner’ slated

This summer the Community Light Opera and Theater Association stikes musical hilarity with “Li’l Abner,” based on the comic strip by Al Capp, with book by Norman Panama and Melvin Frank, music by Gene De Paul, lyrics by Johnny Mercer and directed by Larry Lier.

This spoof of hillbillies also spoofs broader topics, ranging from incompetence in the U.S. government to standards of masculinity.

The play has parts for several men and women with good comedic timing and the character ages range from 20-something to 50-something. Most roles require singing, dancing or both. Auditions will be held May 3 at 6 p.m. and May 4 at 2 p.m. at CLOTA Center Stage, 1425 N. Inyo St. Performances will start on July 18 and continue for two weekends thereafter. For more details call the CLOTA hotline at 760-446-2411.
