The Ridgecrest City Council will host three special budget sessions this week — one on Thursday, April 25, at 6 p.m., and two on Saturday, April 27, at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

City Manager Dennis Speer highlighted an estimated $1.3-million structural budget deficit last fall. While the council was able to make some cuts, and use Measure L to backfill needs in public safety, the city is expected to make severe cuts this budget cycle.

The first session will address the budgets of public works, public services and general administration, the second will cover police and finance and the third will go through parks and recreation.

The last several months has seen impassioned calls from the public for additional budget support to everything from roads and other infrastructure to parks and recreation programs.

The council encouraged the public to engage in the process to help define priorities. All budget sessions are open to the public.
