Lotee died March 3, 2013, at age 96. He was widely appreciated as one of the most magnificent of the mavericks of old China Lake. After a highly productive 34-year career in the Explosives Department on base, he retired and turned to volunteer tasks to give back to his community.
He served a term on the Ridgecrest Planning Commission, was president of the China Lake Community Council, and president of the Kern Memorial Society. He took many classes at Cerro Coso Community College, was a docent at the Maturango Museum and was an escort at Little Petroglyph Canyon. He was instrumental in building up CLOTA, and more. In retirement, he and wife Eleanor traveled to many countries.Story First Published: 2013-04-10
