Sylvia JoAn GreeneSylvia JoAn Greene, 79, of Ridgecrest, passed away Monday, March 25, at Ridgecrest Healthcare.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 28, at Ridgecrest Calvary Assembly, 800 W Upjohn Ave., at 11 a.m., with Pastor Billy Phipps officiating. A burial at Mountainair Cemetery in Mountainair, N. M., will take place on April 20.

JoAn had been a resident of Ridgecrest on and off most of her adult life, most recently coming back to Ridgecrest in December 2008.

Born Dec. 3, 1933, in Mountainair, N.M., to Harold and Roberta Greene, she spent a large portion of her life in Mountainair where she loved collecting Indian artifacts and exploring the outdoors.

JoAn was an avid artist and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Through the years, many dogs have been faithful companions and known as family to JoAn. Her family speaks of her as God’s Loving Angel, and she will be remembered as a devout Christian telling anyone and everyone about the Lord. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren, as well as her family heritage.

She is survived by daughter, Brenda D. Lory, and husband John of Colorado Springs, Colo.; son Robert J. Dunn, Jr., and wife Karla of Ridgecrest; son Rodney R. Dunn of Ridgecrest; and daughter-in-law, Debra K. Holland of Ridgecrest.

Also surviving her are grandchildren Jennifer Hernandez, Christopher Lory, Sarah Dunn, Jacob Dunn, Danny Unger, Justin Dunn, Dianna Dunn, and Cierra Cameron; six great-grandchildren; and brothers Jerry Greene and wife Carol of Globe, Ariz., Jack Greene and wife Rosemary of Mountainair, and Jim Greene and wife Dorothy of Mountainair.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Ridgecrest Healthcare for their sensitivity and care given to Sylvia during the last year. In addition, a thank you is extended to Dr. Shamasunder, Linda and staff at Antelope Valley Cancer Institute for the kindness and care given during her chemo treatments.
