CERT event at April 6 Block Party at Jackson ParkThe 4th Annual Emergency Readiness Block Party will be April 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at LeRoy Jackson Park on Las Flores Avenue. The event is presented by the Indian Wells Valley Community Emergen-cy Response Team.

The purpose of the party is to bring the public information, awareness, and education about how to prepare for an emergency. The event will provide fun opportunities for families to become more aware of preparedness issues and learm how to care for themselves in emergency situations.

In addition to CERT volunteers, police, fire, other emergency response teams and community businesses will be there. Teams will be ready to answer questions and to offer tips to visitors.

Also joining CERT at this event will be High Desert Leapin’ Lizards, a local childcare resource, which will be celebrating the “Week of the Young Child” with free activities and entertainment for children and families.

The Week of the Young Child is designated by the National Association for the Education of Young Children as a time to publicize programs and services that support children and families.

This year, the week is celebrated from April 14-20 with the theme “Early Years Are Learning Years.”
