James Daniel Rice
James “Danny” Rice, a long-time Ridgecrest resident, passed away peacefully on March 5 in Twentynine Palms. He was 59.
Danny was born on Aug. 22, 1953, to Herman Rice and Betty Adams in Fort Belvoir, Va.
His family relocated to Ridgecrest in June 1969 and he graduated from Burroughs High School in 1971. He met his first wife, Diane, while attending Burroughs High School and later had three wonderful children, Matthew, Jessica and Daniel.
Danny served in the U.S. Army with best friend Clint Prentice from January 1974 to January 1977 in Fort Worth, Texas, where he achieved the rank of E4. Danny continued to serve from January 1977 to January 1980 as an inactive reserve.
After leaving the Army, Danny returned to Ridgecrest and supported the Naval Air Warfare Center at China Lake as a network technician from 1977 to 1999.
Danny then relocated to Twentynine Palms with his second wife, Cynthia, who brought four great children into Danny’s life: Christy, Michelle, Brandon and Tanya.
Danny was preceded in death by his mother, father and a nephew. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia, of Twentynine Palms; brothers, David, Don and Doug of Texas; sisters Diana and Denise of Running Springs; and children Matthew Rice, Jessica (Jon) Olson, Daniel Rice, Christy Rich, Michelle (Jack) Pearson, Brandon (Sofia) Rich and Tanya Burchett; 15 grandchildren with one more on the way, and eight nephews and one niece.Story First Published: 2013-03-27
