Local individuals, businesses and organizations are actively stepping up with others in Kern County to sponsor “A Night of Inspiration,” featuring a much sought after motivational speaker, Kate Adamson.

The March 21 fundraiser will benefit the H.E.A.R.T.S. Connec-tion, a support organization serving families in Ridgecrest, as well as other Kern County families with children who have special needs.

“Kate Adamson has an amazing story. Imagine being in a coma state and knowing everything that is happening and hearing every word spoken in your presence — but being unable to let anyone know,” reported a post on the H.E.A.R.T.S. Facebook page.

“Events like this help us serve families throughout the county including Ridgecrest. The funds raised during these events allow us to keep staff in that area and serve family more affectively without charge,” said Dian Schneider, H.E.A.R.T.S Connection program coordinator.

H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection is a Family Resource Center and Family Empowerment Center staffed by parents and family members of Kern County children with disabilities and/or special healthcare needs.

The staff in the Family Resource Center provides families with parent-to-parent support, advocacy, training and assistance, resource coordination and information. Family Resource Center staff are also available for consultation and training for professionals who serve families with children who have special needs.

“Our mailing list has 183 contacts from Ridgecrest. Some of these are professional contacts, but the majority of those names on the list are families we serve. Families with children having special needs are among those least able to afford support services. Every fundraiser we do is done to keep our services free to the families who need them,” Schneider added.

The idea for this particular fundraiser was sparked by another event where Adamson spoke. “We started planning this event because after being inspired by Kate’s presentation,” said Schneider. “We are hope to make annual event like this with the goal of having an inspirational speaker every year to raise funds for H.E.A.R.T.S. families.”

The cost of the dinner and event is $125 per single ticket and $225 per couple. The March 21 event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Petroleum Club of Bakersfield and requires formal attire.
