Attempted murder suspect held

Ridgecrest Police officers were dispatched at 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 24 to the intersection of South Broadway Street and East Church Avenue regarding a reported hit and run collision.

They located a man lying on the ground and not moving. The man later identified as Anthony Segovia was transported to Kern Medical Center and treated for his injuries.

Witnesses on scene said that another man, driving a white SUV had attempted to hit Segovia and several other subjects walking with him. According to witnesses, the alleged driver later identified as Joshua Connolly, 27, failed to hit Segovia a first time, then reportedly turned around and attempted a second time, hitting Segovia and allegedly causing him to go over the hood of the vehicle and fall into the street. No other subjects were hurt as a result of the collision.

An arrest warrant was issued Feb. 25 for Connolly. RPD detectives, assisted by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, located Connolly Feb. 27 and arrested him at a residence in Wofford Heights. He was later booked at the KCSO in Ridgecrest and charged with attempted murder.
