Phil Bowen (center) receives a Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award from Scott O’Neil, left, executive director, Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, and Rear Adm. Paul Sohl, commander, NAWCWD, who presented Bowen with this honor at China Lake on Feb. 13.
Bowen, who came to China Lake in 1973, was honored for achievements and leadership in advancing numerous weapon systems. “Phil is a rare engineer who can go from analyzing something theoretically to putting it into practice,” O’Neil said. “I think he’s the epitome of an engineer.”
Bowen was also recognized for his dedication to mentoring young NAWCWD engineers and giving them a good foundation on which to build their careers. “This is a wonderful award,” said Bowen. “I’m not sure I deserve it, but I’ll take it.”Story First Published: 2013-02-20
