School board meets tomorrow

The Sierra Sands Unified School Board of Education will meet Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers. The meeting is open to the public.

Among the topics on the agenda are presentations on a scholarship and “Aligning Our Efforts” at James Monroe Middle School, approval of SSUSD 2011-12 School Accountability Report Cards, various personnel matters, initial contract proposal from the Board to the Desert Area Teachers Association, adoption of a resolution to advocate for local control of sufficient funding for the education of district students, approval of contracts for telecommunication services, and acceptance of the 2011-12 audit reports for the UUSUD and Inyo-Kern Schools Financing Authority.

Gov. Jerry Brown is seeking to increase per-student funding for the first time in more than five years and has proposed a local-control funding formula.

The board will be signing and sending a resolution urging Brown to do this in order to be able to offer more opportunities to all SSUSD students.
