Council to meet tonight

The Ridgecrest City Council, which meets tonight in City Council Chambers, has before it a light agenda.

Mayor Dan Clark is scheduled to present a proclamation in honor of Motorcycle Awareness Month. He will also present City Engineer Loren Culp with the Employee of the Month award.

Although the council has made most of its appointments to boards, agencies and commissions, the members are expected to fill the vacancies in the Personnel Commission, Handicap Access Appeals Board and Construction Appeals Board.

At the previous meeting, City Attorney Keith Lemieux introduced amendments to the municipal code regarding agencies, commissions, boards and committees. The council is expected to vote on the ordinance for the required second time tonight.

Consent calendar actions include approval of the recognized obligation payment schedule of the Ridgecrest Redevelopment Succes-sor Agency.

Despite hearing a report two weeks ago from the auditor that the city is in dire fiscal straits, which followed months of publicly expressed concern about the city budget, the agenda does not include any items dealing with the current structural deficit.

The public is invited to attend the meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. Proceedings are also broadcast live on Mediacom channels 6 and 41.
