Ira Chester Russell

Ira Chester Russell Ira Russell passed from this life on Jan. 14, 2013, in Ridgecrest. Services will be held on Feb. 1, 10:30 a.m., at St. Madeleine Catholic Church in Trona, with a graveside ceremony at the Searles Valley Cemetery. A potluck reception will follow at the Trona Senior Center. All family and friends are invited to join in celebrating his life.

Ira, who was born in Great Falls, Mont., on Feb. 26, 1932, moved and attended school in Trona beginning in 1942. In 1951 he left school to serve his country in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War with the C Company, 140th Tank Battalion.

Ira was married for 56 wonderful years to the love of his life, Gwendolyn May Holland, raising their children in Trona. He worked at the Trona Plant and retired in 1993, at which time Ira and Gwen relocated to Ridgecrest.

Their four children and their families survive Ira: Rod and Carlene Russell of Ohio, Theresa and Michael Maloney of Alaska, Michelle and Michael Ball of Trona and Ira and Della Russell of Ontario. Ira also leaves behind a sister, June Sayre of Trona; and two brothers, David Russell of Goleta and Lee Russell of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents Ira and Mary Russell and two brothers, Charles and John Russell. Ira was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
