Joseph D. Mallory
Longtime Ridgecrest resident Dr. Joseph D. Mallory died on Dec. 19, 2012, at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital in Ridgecrest. He was 62. Services were held Jan. 8.
Joe was born on Feb. 23, 1950, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Herbert Dean Mallory and Dorothy Marie Graber Mallory. He came to Ridgecrest at age 7 with his family and graduated from Burroughs High School in 1968. He was a Ridgecrest resident for 55 years.He was a well-known local optometrist for 35 years and practiced from his office at 905 W. Drummond Ave.
Joe was a member of the Board of Directors of the Indian Wells Valley Water District for two terms, from 1994 to 2002. Former IWVWD General Manager Tom Mulvihill remembers him this way. “I think he was very conscientious. He had a very sharp mind and so he always had an insight, looking into issues from a different angle. That gave the board an opportunity to take another look at something.”
Joe is survived by his sons, Kevin and Shaun Mallory; sister Melodie Solton; brother, Dr. Daniel Mallory; stepsister, Debbie Covey; grandson Parker Mallory and numerous nieces and nephews.Story First Published: 2013-01-09
