Joseph D. Mallory
Longtime Ridgecrest resident Dr. Joseph D. Mallory died on Dec. 19, 2012, at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital in Ridgecrest. He was 62.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, from 10-11 a.m. at H.K. Holland Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. Father Paul Kado of St. Ann Church will officiate.
Dr. Mallory was born on Feb. 23, 1950, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Herbert Dean Mallory and Dorothy Marie Graber Mallory. He came to Ridgecrest at age 7 with his family, and lived here for 55 years.
He was a well-known local optometrist for 35 years, and practiced from his office at 905 W. Drummond Ave.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Indian Wells Valley Water District for two terms, from 1994 to 2002.
Former IWVWD General Manager Tom Mulvihill remembers him this way. “I think he was very conscientious. He had a very sharp mind and so he always had an insight, looking into issues from a different angle. That gave the board an opportunity to take another look at something.”
