Arrests linked to multiple burglaries

The Ridgecrest Police Department received a report Dec. 13 of a residential burglary that had just occurred on West Coral Avenue.

According to the RPD report, the victim reportedly woke up and encountered a burglar inside her home. The burglar allegedly threw an object, injuring the homeowner, then fled from the home.

Officers responded to the location and logged a description of the suspect and the stolen property.

In follow-up investigations by RPD?officers and detectives, officials reportedly found evidence linking Cleighton Shelhart, 24, to the burglary. Shelhart was located during a traffic stop in the company of William Lyster, 21.

Inside the vehicle investigators found property reported stolen. They believe Shelhart and Lyster were responsible for several residential burglaries in the city.

According to the RPD report, both suspects were arrested on robbery and residential burglary charges, along with possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit crime, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shelhart was booked at the Kern County Jail and his bail was set at $202,500. Lyster was booked at the Kern County Jail, with his bail set at $177,500. The recovered stolen property was returned to the victims.
