Suggests conflict of interest

To the Editor:

Gentlemen and Lady:

Last week’s discussion on the SSBGC [Boys & Girls Club] went for quite a while. Lots of positions were posited. One fact that was left out of the public’s knowledge is that Mrs. Acton is listed as being on the SSBGC board on the Smart Voter website, per information provided by herself during the last campaign. If that were the case, I would have expected her to recuse herself from the discussion. In light of her strong advocacy to approve funding for this entity, I consider the whole discussion tainted by the conflict of interest in her case.

In the future when the discussion is revived, Mrs. Acton should recuse herself from participation if the SSBGC is going to continue to be considered for funding. If other councilmembers have a similar connection to the SSBGC, they should also recuse themselves.
