Vets BBQ in park

A barbecue in LeRoy Jackson Park is planned for veterans and their families for Nov. 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., or “as long as we’re having fun,” according to Organizer Peggy Breeden.

A parade had been planned; however, it was cancelled due to an insufficient number of entries. Not to worry—Breeden arranged with all the organizations that had put in their entries to be at the park to help celebrate the veterans. “There will be antique cars, and the cheerleaders will do skits to honor the veterans,” said Breeden. “There will be lots of food and a good time for all who come out.”

The issue appears to be “too many parades too close together,” said Breeden. “We had four parades in four months. That’s just too much. All the parades are great, but they need to be more spread out over the year.”

Veterans will have a chance to get together, swap stories and memories, and generally have a great time. The event is designed to thank all veterans and active duty service personnel for their service to our country.
