Mary Jane Driggs
Mary Jane Driggs of Ridgecrest died Oct. 19, 2012. She was 89.
Services were held Nov. 7 at St. Ann Church, with Father Kado officiating.
Mary Jane was born Dec. 8, 1922, to Henry and Amelia Allison in McAlester, Okla. After completing high school, she worked for several years in Oklahoma before moving to Ridgecrest. In 1959 she began working as a secretary at Naval Ordnance Test Station, as the Naval Air Weapons Station, China Lake, was known then. She eventually moved up to become the secretary for China Lake’s commander.
Mary Jane was a devout Catholic and found great happiness in playing the organ for the choir during services at the All Faith Chapel and at St. Ann Church for almost 50 years. This is where she met the love of her life, Robert Driggs, who was the choir director.
They were married in 1964 and spent many wonderful years together until Robert’s passing in 1994. Mary Jane loved her pets and especially her cats, and would spend many hours caring for and admiring them. The birth of her great great-great-nephew was a source of happiness for Mary Jane; she loved talking to him and thoroughly enjoyed his visits.
She is survived by nephew Robert Daniels of Wagoner, Okla., niece Judy Smith of Henderson, Nev., and great nephews Michael Sorensen of Ridgecrest and Gregory Sorensen of Henderson, Nev.
